Bandh vis-
Ojing Tayeng
ITANAGAR, June 4: The bandh culture is not a new thing in Arunachal Pradesh and the country as a whole.
The statutory authorities term it as illegal and try its level best to denounce bandh culture while the pressure groups resort to bandh as their only weapon to express grievances and register protest to the Govt against what they think inappropriate and injustice.
Not only the government but every citizen also disapproves bandh calls.
Besides the functioning of the Govt, other most affected communities are daily wage earners and petty businessmen who mainly deal on perishable goods and fresh vegetable.
However, when we look at the other side of the bandh calls, we find some beneficial outcome too. Bandh calls directly or indirectly help us to fight against global warming and conserving or saving energy up to some extent.
Though everybody talk about conservation of energy and reduction of carbon emission, but we human being hardly follow the nature’s instruction and the duty given to every human being for the existence of the mother earth.
Just imagine, if our state or the whole of India could manage a Total Pollution Free
Day in a year by imposing restriction on the movement of vehicles, working of industries,
factories by keeping aside our one-
I am not justifying bandh, and many may disapprove the suggestion, but if we dig

It is in this circumstances, observing a total pollution free day by the people, besides holding national and international level conference and seminar on global warming and energy conservation, in a year will do wonder.
The Govts and Front ranking NGOs should ponder upon the suggestion. We have nothing to lose if we observe a total pollution free day in our state and the country.
A beginning should be made somewhere!

Bring back the old glory
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to attract the attention of Education Department of East Kameng District, towards Jeju Dada village which is 8 Km away from the main town Seppa.
It is very sad and unfortunate that Govt. M.E School of Jeju Dada is being converted into a Primary School instead of up gradation.
In fact, Govt. M.E. School Jeju Dada was established about 20 years back and is one of the oldest schools in the area.
I still remember those days when I was a student of class II in 1996. Those days’
teachers were available and there was provision of free uniforms and hostels facility
for children upto Class-
It was in year of 1999, many people lost their lives because of an outbreak of disease. During that period, our teachers left the school, forcing the school to close down, as there was no available medicine.
Now, we could bring back those old days. Hostel, school and other facilities are
already there. Need of hour is to repair those buildings so that we bring back the
old glory of the school and once again become main centre of Board Exam of different
villages including Lamgu Gyadi, Sangyu-
I would also like to add that these days parents are facing lots of problem due to raised admission fee structure of different schools in the district.
I would request concern authority to visit schools at least 4 or 5 times in a year so that authority could know the problems confronting the government schools.
Yours,

Sika Tode don’t need another devastation
Dear Editor,
The 2700 MW Lower Siang Project (LSHP) and 3000 MW Dibang Valley Project has become a cause of tension for the natives of Sika Tode village, the downstream area of Lower Siang belt.
It is well known that the downstream area of Sika Tode is almost at the same level of Siang and Dibang. After the construction of both the projects, will the people of downstream areas able to live peacefully? I do not think so.
The miseries of after effect like bursting and leakage in dam will force us to undergo sleepless nights for generations to come. What if there is another earthquake and flood. I don't think I will find Sika Tode and Sika Bamin in the geographical census of 2050 after the establishment of LSHP and Dibang Project.
We don't have ancestral lands and kin's and relatives in other parts of Arunachal or elsewhere in this world. So, we are destined to protect our native village of Sika Tode. The miseries we had undergone during Siang flood still haunt us.
The flood had totally converted my family into beggars and refugees. I pray and beg before Govt. that after witnessing Siang flood of 2000 we do not want to see another devastation of our native village by establishing Projects.
Yours,
Anong Apang

Land is our property
Dear Editor,
I do support the Dam construction in Arunachal Pradesh in general and particularly in Siang river valleys. But as a concerned citizen of dam affected areas, I would like to draw the attention of the authorities regarding the present and future problems to be faced by the people of Siang valley. The Govt always talk about compensation but do they think about the survival of the future generation? Will their compensation be continuous process for generation to come?
No doubt, the compensation will be given but it will benefit only few persons who are economically sound, but what about the illiterate farmers who depend only on their land, forests and rivers for livelihood. Who will compensate the flora and fauna and their natural habitat, like Daying Ering Wildlife sanctuary, natural flows of various streams, rich dense forests.
The entire state of Arunachal Pradesh lies in zone V of seismic hazard and construction of large number of dam would make the situation worsen and these could be another major cause of earthquake in near future. Therefore, the authorities should think about the geographical condition of the state before forumlating plans and approve proposals to make Arunachal a power house of India. It will be better to think alternative source like solar power for the state.
From the economic point of view, our land is fully rugged and some mountain valleys are being used up for the settlement and agriculture activities. If these lone remaining plots of land are forcibly taken away from them, then what will be left for poor people? It shows, that only few tract of land will be left for huge population which will cause imbalance between land and population. All settlements, cultivation lands and few rivers valley are going to be exploited and submerged under water due to construction of Dams which may lead to urbanization and landless farmers.
So, I earnestly request the state Govt. that before welcoming the power developers, initiatives must be taken for the survival of people and it should not be only means of earning money. There should be a positive relations between the Govt and the people since the people are the key factor for Govt and Govt is formed for people.
I also request all literate persons, public leader, students union like AAPSU, AdiSU and other organizations to look into the matter seriously.
Yours,
Obuk Jerang

Thank you but do keep the promise
Dear Editor,
We take a moment to write to you on behalf of All Idu Mishmi Students Union (AIMSU), to express our gratefulness for the efforts your esteemed daily gave in giving wide coverage on Dibang Valley which has been facing nature’s fury for about three months. We are overwhelmed with affection shown to people of Dibang Valley by Muskan Welfare Society by sending essential medicines required during this grim hour. The union expresses its warm regards and thanks to all those individuals who in their own capacity have campaigned for help to Dibang Valley.
The union is grateful to All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) for sharing concern of local people of Dibang Valley. We appreciate AAPSU for their intervention to state govt calling for a high level committee to take stock of the whole situation. In this regard, the union would like to make an appeal to State Govt and in particular Rajesh Tacho, MLA Anini for making effort in materializing the committee, which is needed as early as possible.
Further, the union endorses AAPSU’s call to govt for immediate announcement for a special economic package to the district when struck with calamity so that it comes up with preventive measures.
Above all, we are aware of the small gestures and efforts that have really made the difference. The continuous presence and mobilization by DC Anini, Tayor Jempen to all govt staffs and officers to stay back in Anini to help out local people during the calamity is worth appreciating.
While we express our thanks, we are also aware of fact that the people in Dibang Valley are continuously suffering and it has not yet subsided. Hence, we request the govt to fulfill their commitment to the earliest.
It is the media who make our world a better place, simply by taking the extra time it takes to ensure no one is deprived of their rights. Once again, we thank all for showering their helping hands towards people of Dibang Valley.
